The Hostel Experience - Who Stays at a Hostel
North Americans are not all that familiar with the hostel experience or hostel life. Yet, they are everywhere and if you attempted to stay at every Hostel in the World you would need a few lifetimes. Hostel world claims there are more than 30,000 youth Hostel worldwide and they seem to have the largest hostel database.
The hostel experience is an unique blend of community living and tourist activities. You get your sleeping space and use of the common areas. In Birch Bay you can also join the Art and Music Commuinity. There is a weekly drum circle thursdays at 7 pm and there are artists working throughout the building.
Who stays at hostels? European travelers are familar with hostel and are comfortable staying in dorm style rooms. As North Americans discover this jewel more and more are looking at hostel accommodation for their vacation time.
Here at the Birch Bay Hostel we have a broad spectrum of visitors.
We provided accommodation to Scouts attending Hands Across the Border.
We provided accommodation to weddings (up to 40)
We provided accommodation to teams both youth and adult
We provided accommodation to those relocating to the area and those leaving the area stay while waiting for moving van to arrive. We have others waiting to get across the border to Canada.
We provided accommodation to students needing a quiet place to read, write or study.
We provided accommodation to Alaskans waiting to take the weekly ferry back home.
We provided accommodation to travelers just passing through.
We provided accommodation to Canadians shopping and needing to stay enough hours to take their purchases back.
We provided accommodation for a group of doctors needing a space to debrief and chill.
We are not just a youth hostel. We provided accommodation to all ages and to families and groups.
We don't have camping on site but the State park is near.
