Memories to Treasure

The Birch Bay Lions Hostel was closed in 2013.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the incredible volunteers and community members who have supported the hostel since 2004. Over the past three years, we transformed this once rundown building into a shining jewel.

Managing the hostel has been an experience I will always cherish. I had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people and hearing their captivating stories. I witnessed talented artists bring the walls to life and enjoyed the melodies of musicians sharing their songs.

I would like to give special thanks to Linda Diane Taylor, my dedicated sidekick, for her amazing vision and the countless hours she devoted to cleaning, organizing, and promoting the hostel. She rose each morning at 5 a.m. and often worked late into the night, all as a volunteer! Her commitment has made a significant impact.

Thank You!! Whatcom Volunteer Center and their volunteers.  Habitat for Humanity, ReStore, WorldMark, Water’s Edge Church, Lynden Lions, Coupeville Lions and our neighbors for generous donations of materials and support.

And thank you to the Students from Blaine & Ferndale High Schools, Whatcom College, Western Washington University & Evergreen University for choosing the Birch Bay Hostel to complete their projects and Internships.

To our Artists who have brightened our space Thank YOU!  Jim Agnello, Keri Wallace, Erika Lynne Bartlett, Girl Scout Troup 42117, Dick Berg, Bryna Murray, Alexandria Sutherland, Reggie Kaster and Linda Diane Taylor.

The Playlists (Leon & Brent Rogers, Billy Shears, Donnie Gossett & Ken Lord) for entertaining our guest & volunteers.  The Playlists are available for parties, weddings and corporate functions.

So many Artists and Creators Helped do this!

When Linda had to return to Canada to care for her ailing mother, her absence was deeply felt. Unfortunately, her health did not improve, and she was unable to come back to the hostel. We truly missed her, as the work she did required the effort of three people.

Currently, Linda is involved with a women’s organization where she focuses on painting and writing. You can stay connected with her through her website at www.taylyn.com or on Facebook at lindadianetaylor.

I would also like to express my gratitude to the members of the Birch Bay Lions for their hard work in keeping the project alive. Though we were small in number, we were mighty in spirit.

I have no regrets about my departure, as I believe my time here was complete. I’m excited to pursue other endeavors and will carry with me wonderful memories and many new friendships.

For now, I will keep the old posts available. You can also visit my website: Kenny Lord.

You might catch me around town playing music at the Birch Bay Music Festival, Semiahmoo Resort, or at a local club. Alternatively, you may see me prancing around in the BRRR the Bear costume or simply enjoying some time at the beach.

Blessing

Ken Lord
